What is a Compound Bow and Why do I Need to Know?

Holles Wilbur Allen invented the compound bow in 1967 in his home state of Missouri. This bow uses pulleys and cables that form a leverage system to bend the limbs or ends of the bow. The long bow, also known as the recurve bow, has limbs that are much more flexible than the compound bow.
